Intern v1.0 Is Here: An AI Assistant That Actually Remembers You
Today we are shipping the first public release of Intern — a desktop AI assistant for Mac that maintains persistent memory, tracks your commitments, and gets better the longer you use it.
Today, Intern is live
After months of building, testing, and using Intern ourselves every day, we are shipping v1.0.0 to the public. You can download it right now for Mac, drag it to Applications, and start your free 14-day trial.
No credit card. No account setup beyond a name and email. Your new assistant starts working today.
The problem we kept hitting
Every AI tool we tried — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini — is brilliant in the moment and useless across time. You explain your project, get great help, close the tab, and tomorrow it greets you like a stranger. After months of daily use, we had spent hours re-explaining our own context.
The industry calls this "stateless." We call it a dealbreaker for anyone who needs real operational help.
What Intern does differently
Intern runs as a native Mac app on your desktop. It is not a browser tab you can accidentally close. It is not a wrapper around someone else's API. And most importantly, it remembers everything.
Behavioral intelligence is our term for what happens when memory becomes useful. Intern does not just store transcripts — it detects patterns in how you work:
- What you commit to and whether you follow through
- Which people and projects you mention repeatedly
- What tends to slip through the cracks when your week gets busy
- How long you have been away and what you were working on before
Then it acts on that understanding. A morning brief that knows your actual schedule. Follow-up nudges before promises expire. Conversations that pick up where you left off, not where a new session started.
Five surfaces, one relationship
Intern is organized around five product surfaces:
Today — Your operating brief. Open it each morning and see what Intern has assembled: weather, calendar, commitments, and what needs your attention. Real data from your life, not a chatbot prompt.
Chat — The main relationship channel. Intern talks like a person, remembers context, and keeps practical follow-through moving. Every conversation builds on the last.
Reminders — A place for promises, routines, and loose ends. Intern holds these so nothing important disappears because your day got messy.
Research — A calmer way to check reality, compare options, and gather sources before a decision. Every result shows its sources — no black-box answers.
Me — Where you set boundaries: tone, memory depth, and preferences. Intern adapts to feel like your assistant, not a generic bot.
Privacy is not a feature — it is the architecture
All your conversations, memory, and behavioral data stay on your Mac. There is no cloud sync. There is no telemetry of what you talk about. We built Intern on OpenClaw, an open-source AI runtime you can inspect yourself.
The app is code-signed and notarized by Apple. It runs natively on Apple Silicon. It does not phone home with your data.
We made this choice because the kind of memory Intern builds — your commitments, your relationships, your work patterns — is deeply personal. It should never leave your machine unless you explicitly choose to share it.
Who Intern is for
Intern is built for people who work alone or in very small teams: solopreneurs, freelancers, indie hackers, consultants, researchers, creative professionals. People with real obligations and too many open loops.
If you have ever wished your AI assistant could just remember what you were doing yesterday — Intern is for you.
What comes next
This is v1.0, not the finish line. Our immediate roadmap includes:
- Google OAuth — One login connects your calendar and email
- Scheduled morning briefs — Push notifications at your preferred time, even when the app is in the background
- Proactive check-ins — Intern reaches out when it notices something needs your attention
- Relationship memory — Deeper understanding of the people in your professional life
We ship weekly. Every update makes Intern a little more like the dependable colleague it is meant to be.
